A printing error has left Fressnapf Germany with more than 30,000 XL shipping boxes featuring incorrect branding. Instead of sorting out the otherwise faultless packaging, the company is putting the boxes into circulation anyway.
On one side of the affected shipping boxes, a letter is missing: instead of „Fressnapf Maxi Zoo“, it reads „Fressnapf Maxi Zo“. According to the company, the error affects more than 30,000 XL boxes that will be used for shipping orders in the coming weeks.
Fressnapf justifies the decision by stating that, apart from the incorrect printing, the packaging is fully usable. The boxes are sturdy and continue to fulfil their protective function during transport. Sorting out and replacing the packaging was therefore out of the question for the company.
Misprint becomes a sustainability issue
With this decision, Fressnapf is preventing a large quantity of already produced and functional shipping packaging from being sorted out solely due to a visual defect. The company does not mention in its LinkedIn post how much material or resources will be saved as a result.
Fressnapf is simultaneously making the misprint a public issue and pointing out to customers that the shortened lettering does not mean a rebranding.
