Ballerstaedt looks back on eight decades of successful company history. Since its founding in 1946, the family-run business has developed into an internationally recognised specialist in seal technology.
The story of Ballerstaedt began in 1946 in Kiel with the production of watchmaker chemicals. However, the decisive turning point came in the 1960s when glass packaging was replaced by plastic containers. The tightness of the closures presented a major problem, which the founders Günther Ballerstaedt, Helmut Galster, Heinz Lützenkirchen and Engelbert Rohwedder solved by developing aluminium sealing caps and corresponding sealing machines. A successful sealing cap system was created in a very short time, with which Ballerstaedt has been successfully on the market to this day.
Growth through innovation and generational change
Another milestone in the company's history was the change of generations in 1987, when Harald Ballerstaedt and André Rohwedder took over management. Under their leadership, the company continued to expand, invested in modern stamping and cutting technology, and built the new company site in Rastatt in 2001. These investments enabled Ballerstaedt to increase production capacities and establish itself internationally.

Sustainability and Quality
Certifications to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and HACCP underline the high standards of quality and sustainability that are lived at Ballerstaedt. In recent years, the company has also invested in digitalisation, modern printing technologies, and sustainable production methods to meet the increasing demands of the packaging industry.
A global player
Today, Ballerstaedt supplies over 1,000 customers in more than 65 countries and is a leading provider of sealing systems. Customers come from the food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and chemical sectors. The 80th anniversary was duly celebrated on 3 July. The event offered not only a look back at the company's eventful history but also a glimpse into the future. Management emphasised the importance of innovation and sustainability as keys to future success.
