Coveris has developed a mono-material sleeve for Dr. Beckmann, which is being used for the market launch of the company's first liquid fabric softener in France. The project was brought from concept to market launch in just six months, combining sustainability with operational efficiency.
The heart of the new packaging solution is the SleeveFlex Ultra Stretch, an elastic sleeve made from single-material LDPE film. This sleeve is suitable for both PET bottles and HDPE containers and is characterised by its low density, which allows for easy separation in the sink-float process. This supports bottle-to-bottle recycling for PET, while creating a fully mono-material packaging solution for HDPE. This helps brands like Dr. Beckmann to meet the current and future requirements of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).
Material saving and cost reduction
Compared to conventional shrink sleeves, the SleeveFlex Ultra Stretch uses around 30 percent less material. Another advantage is the omission of a steam tunnel, which saves approximately 150 kilograms of steam per hour. These savings not only contribute to sustainability, but also lower total operating costs by eliminating the need for temperature-controlled transport and special storage conditions. Coveris reports that operating costs can be reduced by up to 50 percent through these measures.
Coveris acted as a full-service packaging partner, supporting Dr. Beckmann throughout the entire project. From selecting the right technology and integrating new machinery to commissioning the production line, Coveris was instrumental in bringing the solution to market readiness within the specified timeframe of six months.
