Paper-based thermohood

Ecocool is expanding its product range with the ‚Paperhood‘, a thermal hood made from paper-based material. This offers improved insulation performance and sustainability.

Ecocool continues to expand its product portfolio and presents its new ‚Paperhood‘, a thermal cover specifically developed for palletised air and sea freight. This innovation is based on a paper-based insulation technique consisting of up to nine layers of embossed paper, complemented by a reflective outer layer.

The combination of different materials in the ‚Paperhood‘ leads to an insulation performance improvement of up to 57 per cent compared to conventional thermal hoods. This is particularly relevant for the transport of temperature-sensitive goods, where a constant temperature throughout the entire supply chain is crucial. The reflective outer layer additionally helps to minimise heat radiation, further increasing the insulation's efficiency.

Focus on sustainability

As well as improved insulation performance, Ecocool places great emphasis on the sustainability of its products. The use of paper-based materials enables more environmentally friendly disposal and reduces the ecological footprint. With the launch of the Inno range, made from recycled cellulose and jute-based products, Ecocool has already demonstrated that sustainable packaging solutions can be both functional and environmentally friendly.

Protection during air and sea freight transport

The main application of the new Paperhood is to protect temperature-sensitive goods from external weather conditions during air and sea freight transport. In air freight, the Paperhood thermal cover provides the necessary protection during transhipment operations on the apron to keep sensitive cargo safely and stably within the target temperature range for many hours. In sea freight, on the other hand, the focus is on protecting the goods and maintaining temperature stability during so-called „power-off“ periods. This is the period during which the reefer container is parked at the quay prior to being loaded onto the ship and cannot be actively temperature-controlled.

The Paperhood thermal hood is specifically designed for use in ambient temperatures ranging from 15 to 25 degrees Celsius. Ecocool’s climate chamber tests showed that the set temperature is maintained for at least 3.5 hours (winter test) up to around 4.0 hours (summer test) within this ambient temperature range. For use within the target temperature range of between two and eight degrees Celsius, we recommend combining the hood with Ecocool’s ‘Waterblakets’ as an additional insulating layer.
