Just in time for the start of the application of the EU Packaging Regulation, the European Pallet Association e.V. (EPAL) has published the EU declarations of conformity in accordance with Art. 39 PPWR for EPAL palettes. Users and suppliers can now demonstrate that EPAL palettes meet the PPWR requirements for packaging. They thus receive a reliable basis for the use of EPAL palettes under the new legal framework of the PPWR.

By publishing the declarations of conformity on its website, EPAL enables users of EPAL pallets to comply with the PPWR requirements easily and transparently. Dirk Hoferer, President of EPAL, emphasises that companies can concentrate on their core business while compliance with the new guidelines is simplified by the documents provided. This is particularly advantageous for companies with complex or international supply chains.

Digital pallet passport as proof

Another innovative tool provided by EPAL is the digital pallet pass. Developed in 2024 with the introduction of EPAL pallets featuring a QR code, it now also includes the PPWR declarations of conformity. Jarek Maciążek, also President of EPAL, explains that this digital certificate provides information not only on production, but also on the reusability and recyclability of the pallets.

Focus on sustainability

The PPWR declarations of conformity confirm that EPAL pallets are recyclable and reusable, which meets the requirements for substances in packaging. As Bernd Dörre, CEO of EPAL, explains, EPAL draws on its long-standing quality assurance to ensure continuous compliance with the PPWR. These measures support the open EPAL pallet pool, which is considered an exemplary reuse system.

The European Commission recently published the second version of the FAQs explaining the PPWR. In it, the EPAL pallet pool is once again named as an example of an open reuse system in accordance with the provisions of the PPWR. Users can contribute to achieving the reuse targets applicable to them from the year 2030 onwards. As an open pallet pool, EPAL thus offers free access to PPWR-compliant and reusable pallets and confirms this with PPWR declarations of conformity.

Declaration of Conformity for CP Pallets

EPAL President Dirk Hoferer: „Packaging reuse works particularly well when it is easily accessible and the pallets can be shared by as many companies as possible across different sectors. This is the strength of the open EPAL pallet pool, and the publication of the PPWR declarations of conformity for EPAL pallets contributes to this. The successful development of EPAL CP pallet production in 2026 also stems from the need to demonstrate PPWR conformity for CP pallets. Therefore, declarations of conformity are naturally also available for all nine types of EPAL CP pallets.“
