The increasing automation and use of AI in the logistics industry are crucial factors in meeting the growing demands for efficiency and precision. Geekplus is responding to this trend by opening its European Innovation Lab in Düsseldorf. It is designed to serve as a test environment for AI-powered robotics solutions and offers companies the opportunity to experience innovative technologies firsthand. packaging journal was at the opening.
A highlight of the opening event was certainly the premiere of the humanoid robot ‚Gino 1‘. With its three fingers equipped with tactile sensors, it grips reliably and is set to be used in various areas of the warehouse in future. Its tasks will then include order picking and sorting, the handling of transport containers, packaging, as well as palletising and depalletising.

The European Innovation Lab is the first of its kind by Geekplus in Europe and is designed to serve as a hub for advanced robotics and the practical application of AI. At the opening ceremony, which was attended by over 150 industry representatives, Geekplus emphasised the importance of the lab as a platform for collaboration and innovation. With the motto „AI in Motion. Rooted in Europe“, the company is underlining its ambitions to have a lasting impact on the European logistics industry.
Practical applications and demonstrations
With the opening of the new centre in Düsseldorf, the company is reaffirming its commitment to European customers. It was designed to help customers master the technological transition towards agent-based capabilities.
Visitors to the laboratory can experience various robotics solutions in action, including person-to-automation concepts such as „pallet-to-person“, „tote-to-person“ and „shelf-to-person“. These demonstrations provide insights into human-machine interaction and show how automation can increase efficiency in warehouse environments.
„The opening of the Innovation Centre in Düsseldorf is a crucial step in bringing AI-driven warehouse robotics closer to the very European customers who will shape the next era. This centre enables companies to experience the entire ecosystem in action – from workflows where humans and automation work together, to humanoid robots and logistics software.“
Hong Yu, Head of EMEA at Geekplus Europe
A place for continuing education and civic engagement
Visitors can currently view some of the world's newest innovations in the field of robotics. Alongside the humanoid robot „Gino 1“, for example, the „RoboShuttle Hyper“ and the integrated robotic arm picking station in conjunction with the „Geekplus Gravity“ system. It will also serve as an innovation test centre for future solutions.

Geekplus positions the centre as a place where visitors can experience this combination of robotics functionality, automation interaction methods and supporting logistics software, which together reflect what is becoming possible in modern warehouse environments.
„The Innovation Lab offers sales and operations teams a place where they can end-to-end validate AI-driven robotics and understand how autonomous capabilities can be translated into actual warehouse performance, and move faster from evaluation to rollout across Western Europe.“
Rinus Geurts, Western Europe Sales Director at Geekplus
The European Innovation Lab is not only a place for demonstrations, but also for further training and engagement. Geekplus plans to host monthly tours and industry-specific themed days to promote the exchange of knowledge and experience. With more than 1,000 visitors expected per year, the centre is intended to provide a long-term platform for the exploration of robotics solutions.
