Funds advised by Apax Partners intend to sell the reusable pooling provider Tosca to Goldman Sachs Alternatives. The transaction is expected to be completed in 2026, subject to the required approvals.

Headquartered in Atlanta, Tosca provides pooling, logistics, asset management and washing services for reusable plastic containers, pallets and bulk containers. According to the company, its solutions are used primarily by food manufacturers, distributors and retailers. It operates 63 service and washing centres and works with more than 5,000 customers in 30 countries across North America and Europe.

Apax acquired Tosca in 2017. Since then, the company has expanded its geographical presence and built up its operational capabilities. Tosca itself was founded in 1959.

Investments in reusable infrastructure planned

Following the completion of the transaction, Goldman Sachs Alternatives, together with management, intends to invest further capital in the expansion of Tosca. Investments in container inventory, operational infrastructure and technology are planned. Further automation of the washing centres and growth projects in North America and Europe are also planned.

„Tosca is at the intersection of several key trends, including increasing automation in food supply chains, the growing demand for circular economy solutions, and the broader adoption of reusable pooling,“ said Cedric Lucas, partner at Infrastructure at Goldman Sachs Alternatives.

Tosca CEO Eric Frank described the agreement as a major milestone for the company. Goldman Sachs Alternatives has a long-term investment approach and experience in scaling asset-based business models.

Completion of the transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals. Financial details were not disclosed.
