Kaiserkraft significantly expands its sustainability data and creates more transparency in B2B purchasing: The omnichannel retailer will in future provide the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) for around 60,000 products. This key figure makes the greenhouse gas emissions of a product across its entire life cycle visible and creates a new data basis for more sustainable procurement decisions.
With the introduction of the PCF for around 60,000 products, Kaiserkraft is creating a new data foundation that enables companies to incorporate ecological criteria more strongly into their purchasing decisions. The carbon footprint of a product is considered from raw material extraction through manufacturing and transport to use and disposal. Internationally recognised standards such as the GHG Protocol and ISO standard 14067 are used for the calculation.
The PCF has already been calculated for around 90 percent of the currentkaiserkraft portfolio. The aim is to continuously increase CO₂ transparency in the range and at the same time provide impetus for lower-emission products and supply chains.
„With the Product Carbon Footprint, we are creating transparency where companies will increasingly need it in the future: directly on the product. Our goal is to offer our customers a well-founded basis for more sustainable procurement decisions, to better understand emissions in the supply chain, and to meet regulatory requirements more efficiently. Together with our suppliers, we will also drive forward the development of lower-CO₂ products.“
Sabrina Raith, Head of Sustainability at Kaiserkraft's parent company Takkt
Added value for companies
The PCF offers significant added value for procurement and sustainability managers. Products can be compared not only on price, quality and functionality, but also on their climate impact. This helps companies to better capture their emissions and produce sustainability reports. Sabrina Raith, Head of Sustainability at TAKKT, the parent company of Kaiserkraft, emphasises that the integration of the PCF is intended to help companies understand emissions in the supply chain and more efficiently meet regulatory requirements.
The Product Carbon Footprint will in future be displayed directly on the product alongside the already established sustainability score. In the long term, the additional transparency is intended to help promote more sustainable product and supply chain decisions and to further develop collaboration with suppliers for the purpose of continuous CO₂ reduction.
