The increase in counterfeit products presents significant challenges for the pharmaceutical industry. An innovative solution from Schreiner MediPharm now promises to improve the protection of pharmaceutical products throughout the entire supply chain. The company received the group award for innovation at the Finat Label Competition 2026 for its newly developed security seal with a digital authentication function.
Once a year, the European Association of Self-Adhesive Labelling Industries (Finat) recognises outstanding industry solutions. With the Award for Innovation, the jury honoured a development by Schreiner MediPharm that intelligently combines several security features in a single solution: a hidden, digital authentication feature, a unique tamper-evident seal, and a special guilloche pattern as an additional overt authenticity feature.
The highly transparent and sustainable security seal has been specially developed for pharmaceutical secondary packaging, offering enhanced protection against counterfeiting, tampering, and illegal diversion of pharmaceutical products.
The core of the solution is the integration of AlpVision's digital authentication technology, Cryptoglyph. This technology enables the authenticity of a product to be quickly and easily verified via smartphone. The security feature is invisible to the human eye, but is printed with high precision in the transparent area of the seal. Should the seal be tampered with, the digital feature will no longer be readable, making any manipulation attempts immediately detectable.
More security along the supply chain
The solution offers not only simple application but also a high level of protection. Stakeholders such as brand inspectors, distributors, or customs authorities can check the authenticity of products in real time with a standard smartphone. The verification data can be monitored and used for detecting fraudulent attempts, geo-tracking, or market analysis.
Integration of multiple security features
The security seal combines several security features in a single solution. Security perforations integrated into the seal, a specially matched adhesive, and a complex guilloche pattern, along with the unique wave shape of the seal, provide additional protection against tampering. The solution also meets the requirements of the EU Anti-Counterfeiting Directive and DIN EN 16679:2014 for tamper-evident packaging.
