The Austrian packaging manufacturer Steirerpack GmbH is undergoing a restructuring process without independent management. The company from Pölstal intends to continue operating and reorganize itself as part of the process.

On September 21, 2026, the Landesgericht Leoben opened a insolvency procedure without independent administration over the assets of Steirerpack GmbH at its own request. Attorney Dr. Helmut Fetz was appointed as insolvency administrator. According to the Alpenländisches Kreditorenverband (AKV), the liabilities amount to around 2.95 million euros. Currently, 75 creditors are affected.

Packaging manufacturer employs 67 employees

Steirerpack operates in the paper and cardboard processing industry. At its location in Pölstal/Möderbrugg, the company produces, among other things, corrugated cardboard and packaging solutions for industrial customers. Currently, Steirerpack employs 67 employees.

According to the AKV, the company cites the ongoing market and industry crisis in the corrugated cardboard industry as the causes of the economic difficulties, as well as declining sales figures. This is in addition to increased energy, material, and personnel costs. A significant decline in order intake and production disruptions have also burdened liquidity.

Another reason was the termination of the factoring agreement by the funding institution. This resulted in the loss of a significant part of the ongoing financing. Furthermore, important business partners had tightened their delivery and payment terms.

Continued operations and job cuts planned

Steirerpack aims to continue and renovate the company. According to the AKV, restructuring measures have already been initiated. These include adjustments to the workforce as well as optimizations in material procurement and production. The planned reduction of 30 employment relationships has already been indicated to the Austrian Employment Service.

The submitted restructuring plan provides for a 20 percent share for creditors within two years. Of this, nine percent are to be paid within 14 months and another eleven percent within 24 months. The restructuring plan is scheduled for December 9, 2026.
