The logistics industry faces the challenge of processing increasing volumes of goods more efficiently and quickly. Nowaste Logistics is becoming the world's first company to install AutoStore's AutoCase in one of its logistics terminals. The solution was introduced in autumn 2025 and is now being delivered and installed by Swisslog.
The AutoCase system was developed to eliminate time-consuming manual processes and increase efficiency in highly automated logistics terminals. Patrik Johnfors, Head of Solution Design & Implementation at Nowaste Logistics, explains that AutoCase increases storage density and improves process speed. In one of the company's logistics terminals, where large volumes of clothing from Asia are processed, the system enables more efficient storage and order picking.
New workflows in the logistics terminal
Traditionally, the boxes arriving at the terminal are first temporarily stored before being integrated into the AutoStore system. This process requires extensive manual buffer management. With AutoCase, the boxes can now be stored directly in the AutoStore system upon goods receipt, which reduces the need for temporary storage. This makes it possible either to deliver the boxes unopened as complete units to the recipient or to forward them to a picking station for processing individual orders.

Automated handling of cardboard boxes
Giulia Colombi, CEO EMEA at Swisslog, highlights that Nowaste Logistics is the first AutoStore customer to pilot AutoCase. The company is open to innovation and ready to question existing working methods in order to optimise processes. Swisslog sees the AutoCase port as a significant advancement that expands the automation possibilities with AutoStore technology. The automated handling of cartons directly within the system supports new workflows and helps customers achieve a higher level of efficiency and flexibility.
Still in the testing phase
The installation of the AutoCase solution at the Nowaste Logistics terminal took place in the summer and is currently in the testing phase with various box types and sizes. Following the successful completion of the tests, the system will move into full operation and is expected to enable further optimizations in logistics automation.
