Sorting technology specialist Tomra Systems ASA reported a 25 percent increase in revenue in the second quarter of 2026. A significant driver of this development was the introduction of the deposit system in Poland, which has rapidly become one of the company's largest markets in Europe. Since the system's launch, 800 million beverage containers have been collected in over 7,000 installed reverse vending machines (RVMs).
Tomra Group's revenue in the second quarter was €405 million, compared to €325 million the previous year. Of particular note is the growth in the Collection business segment, where revenue increased by 45 percent to €246 million. This was driven by the introduction of deposit systems in new markets such as Poland, Portugal, Singapore, and Romania, as well as 15 percent growth in existing markets like Australia and North America, including the integration of Clynk.
In the Recycling division, sales decreased by eleven percent to 51 million euros. This is due to a decline in orders last year, particularly in waste management in North America and plastics recycling in Europe. Nevertheless, the division recorded order intake growth for the first time in over a year, which increased by 40 percent to 58 million euros, driven by projects in metal recycling and mining.
Challenges and opportunities in the food sector
In the food sector, Tomra recorded sales growth of five percent to 99 million euros. However, the order situation was characterised by a decrease of 22 percent compared to the previous year's quarter. This is due to the absence of large orders received at the same time last year. Nevertheless, there is a positive sentiment for smaller projects, even though the conversion of large projects into orders is currently proceeding slowly.
Tove Andersen, President and CEO of Tomra, highlighted the success of the Polish deposit system as a significant milestone on the path to a more sustainable economy. The expansion of return systems in new markets and the continued demand in the recycling sector continue to offer growth opportunities for the company. However, challenges in the food sector, particularly the conversion of large projects, remain.
