BASF Gastronomie is switching to a new, sustainable packaging for meat and sausage products. Together with S\u00fcdpack and Werz Wurst-Fleisch-Convenience GmbH, BASF's polyamide Ultramid Ccycled is being used for the first time.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The packaging is designed for the Horeca sector (hotel, restaurant, catering) and combines product protection, shelf life and recyclability with an innovative approach to raw materials.<\/p>\n

Ultramid Ccycled is based on a mass-balanced drop-in product derived from pyrolysis oil - produced by chemically recycling mixed plastic waste. This approach makes it possible to replace fossil raw materials with recycled materials without making any changes to existing production facilities or packaging properties.<\/p>

\u201eThe use of recycled raw materials shows that the requirements of the European Packaging Ordinance (PPWR) can be met through chemical recycling,\u201c says Dr Paul Neumann<\/strong>, New Business Development & Sustainability Polyamides Europe at BASF. The packaging solution also fulfils the current German minimum standard for recyclability in the polyethylene film stream.<\/p>\n

High barrier properties for longer shelf life<\/h3>\n

The multi-layer packaging concept offers optimum properties for safely packaging meat and sausage products and extending their shelf life. At the same time, the low use of materials enables the efficient utilisation of resources. After use, the packaging is both chemically and mechanically recyclable.<\/p>\n

As the manufacturer of the high-barrier films, S\u00fcdpack is contributing its expertise in the processing of demanding plastics. The realisation shows that sustainable packaging solutions in the on-trade are practical and economically feasible, the company concludes.<\/p>\n
