Michel Giannuzzi, Chairman of Verallia, was unanimously elected as the new President of the FEVE (European Container Glass Federation) at the organisation's Annual General Meeting. Giannuzzi takes office at a time of profound transformation in the glass packaging industry towards greater sustainability and decarbonisation.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The European glass packaging industry produces over 20 million tonnes of glass annually in 23 countries and provides 125,000 jobs. With a commercial value of over 140 billion euros for glass-packed products, the sector is a mainstay of European industry, according to the report.<\/p>\n

\u201eDecarbonisation needs a political tailwind\u201c<\/h3>\n

During his two-year term of office, Giannuzzi intends to drive forward the 100 or so decarbonisation projects already launched in the industry - including hybrid electric ovens, eco-design initiatives and investments in recycling infrastructure.<\/p>

However, FEVE criticises the political framework: High energy prices, inadequate infrastructure for industrial electrification and a lack of regulatory planning certainty are currently hindering a rapid transformation. Outgoing President Martin Petersson (Ardagh) is calling for a \u201erealistic political pace\u201c that is aligned with the industry's investment-intensive innovation cycles.<\/p>\n
