Mets\u00e4 Board has ceased production at its Tako plant in Tampere, Finland. The decision, which was announced in March, is part of a strategic reorganisation to improve profitability. A comprehensive support programme will assist the 191 affected employees with their career transition.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Following the production stop on 17 June, the BM1 cartonboard machine at the Tako mill was shut down for good. The Finnish packaging board manufacturer Mets\u00e4 Board had already announced the closure of the site in March 2025 following the conclusion of corresponding negotiations. The company cited measures to increase profitability and competitiveness as the reason.<\/p>\n

Measures to support employees<\/h3>\n

Since announcing the decision, Mets\u00e4 Board says it has implemented targeted measures to support the workforce. These have included internal recruitment days, cooperation with other Mets\u00e4 Group plants and further training and coaching programmes in collaboration with employment authorities. At the time of the closure, 95 of the 191 employees had already found new employment, according to the company.<\/p>

Production relocated, future of the property open<\/h3>\n

Production of the products manufactured at the Tako site has been fully transferred to Mets\u00e4 Board's Kyro plant. Customer deliveries are to continue without interruption.<\/p>\n

Following the cessation of production, cleaning work and preparations for the dismantling of the machines have begun. The complete emptying and cleaning of the technical systems should be completed by the end of 2025. Dismantling of the machinery and production equipment is planned for 2026. An application for planning permission for the dismantling of external plant components has already been submitted. No decision has yet been made regarding the future use of the plant site.<\/p>\n
