Alvotech, a global biotech company based in Iceland, has announced the acquisition of Swiss packaging specialist Ivers-Lee.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The aim is to expand the company's own capacities in the final assembly and packaging of biosimilars. Ivers-Lee will continue to operate as an independent legal entity, but will be integrated into Alvotech's technical processes in future.<\/p>\n

The two companies have already enjoyed a close partnership for many years. \u201eAs we are launching three new biosimilars in 2025 and anticipate an increase in global demand, the integration of Ivers-Lee is a logical step to strengthen our supply chain,\u201c explained Alvotech founder and CEO Robert Wessman.<\/p>

Burgdorf site to be retained<\/h3>\n

Ivers-Lee, founded in Burgdorf in 1947, will remain active at its site in Switzerland and with a business unit in L\u00f6rrach (Germany) even after the takeover. The GMP-licensed and FDA-approved facility in Burgdorf is used for the assembly and packaging of autoinjectors, prefilled syringes and vials, among other things. Other services such as blister and stick pack packaging, clinical supply and QP services will be retained.<\/p>\n

Peter Sch\u00fcpbach, grandson of the company founder and former Managing Director, will remain in his role and will also become part of the top management of Alvotech's Technical Operations. He emphasised: \u201eAlvotech brings stability and growth prospects that we cannot offer as a family business alone.\u201c<\/p>\n

Alvotech focuses on global growth<\/h3>\n

Alvotech specialises in the development and production of biosimilars. Copycat products for Humira (adalimumab) and Stelara (ustekinumab) are already being marketed. With a total of nine candidates in the pipeline, the company is pursuing a global growth strategy. Its distribution partners include Teva, Stada, Dr Reddy's and Cipla. The expansion of the technical infrastructure is seen as the key to realising this strategy.<\/p>\n
