The aim is to develop sustainable and functional solutions more quickly.

Nestlé is working with IBM Research to develop new barrier packaging through the use of generative AI and chemical language modelling. The collaboration is focussed on identifying packaging materials that guarantee food safety and quality while being environmentally friendly. The basis for this is a specially trained AI model based on an extensive material database.

At the centre of the research work is a regression model developed by IBM that links molecular structures with physico-chemical properties. The system is capable of, New high-barrier packaging to protect sensitive products from moisture, temperature fluctuations and oxygen.

Nestlé plans to use this technology in the future to evaluate and select materials in terms of cost, recyclability and functionality. Stefan Palzer, Chief Technology Officer at Nestlé, said: „This novel AI-based language model demonstrates how Nestlé is driving digital transformation in the food industry.“

IBM also sees great potential: Alessandro Curioni, Vice President of IBM Research Europe & Africa, said: „Generative AI will disrupt scientific discovery and enable sustainable development.“

AI and digitalisation in Nestlé's development strategy

In addition to packaging solutions, Nestlé is already using other AI technologies: an internal recipe optimisation tool helps to balance nutritional value, costs and sustainability. Digital twins of production facilities are also being used to improve processes. Nestlé also uses digital tools for humans and animals in the area of personalised nutrition.

A further step is the establishment of a new R&D centre for deep tech. This centre will develop and test sensors, robotics, coding systems, AI applications and virtual and mixed reality. The aim is to increase efficiency in research and innovation.

Source: Nestlé

Nestlé and IBM are jointly developing AI-based solutions for new, sustainable packaging materials in the food sector.
Nestlé und IBM entwickeln gemeinsam KI-basierte Lösungen für neue, nachhaltige Verpackungsmaterialien im Lebensmittelbereich.
[114
45188,59913,38,31,32,59448
0":"post-104391","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-aus-den-unternehmen-news","8":"tag-digitalisierung","9":"tag-kuenstliche-intelligenz","10":"tag-lebensmittel","11":"tag-nachhaltigkeit-und-green-packaging","12":"tag-packmittel-und-packstoffe","13":"tag-verpackung","14":"cs-entry","15":"cs-video-wrap
["GET
