According to the company, 60 million euros will be invested in a new coating line there, which is scheduled to go into operation in October 2025. The upgrade is intended to improve print quality and enable the production of high-performance packaging solutions that are particularly appealing to retailers and pharmacies. Metsä Board is also planning to increase the proportion of fossil-free energy in the plant's production from the current 89 per cent to 98 per cent - an important interim step on the way to completely fossil-free production by 2030.

Sustainability and data-based decisions

According to the company, packaging materials play a crucial role in the carbon footprint of brand manufacturers, as they often count as Scope 3 emissions.
