From 2026, the new EU packaging regulation (PPWR) stipulates that only half of cartons may contain filling material. Unitechnik will be showcasing tried-and-tested solutions for resource-saving shipping processes at Fachpack 2025.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The new EU Packaging Regulation (PPWR) will bring a key change for shipping packaging from August 2026: Cartons may then contain a maximum of half filling material. Consequently oversized packaging should be a thing of the past<\/strong>. For many companies, this means a change in the shipping process.<\/p>\n

Automatic carton size calculation with UniWare<\/h2>\n

Unitechnik has been focussing on digital solutions for years. The system integrator from Wiehl enables a dynamic calculation of the carton sizes<\/strong> and optimises the packaging automatically. Unitechnik will be demonstrating how this works in practice at Fachpack. A central element here is the so-called Case Calculation in Unitechnik's own warehouse management system UniWare<\/strong>. Based on precise article master data, the tool calculates the volume of all items in an order and automatically selects the appropriate carton size. This means that the ideal way to fill the shipping carton is already known before picking. This not only reduces the packaging material, but also the transport volume. This reduces shipping costs and CO\u2082 emissions.<\/p>

In addition to volume and dimensions, UniWare also takes into account the weight, pressure sensitivity and nestability of the items. This results in an optimum packing sequence,<\/strong> which is automatically fed into the process. This not only increases efficiency, but also reduces the returns rate.<\/p>\n

Machine support for large formats<\/h2>\n

Unitechnik is presenting another highlight for particularly large cartons: the automatic lidding machine uses sensors to measure the fill level and Automatically adjusts the height of the box<\/strong>. This eliminates excess empty space without jeopardising stability.<\/p>\n

With its solutions, Unitechnik demonstrates that regulatory requirements can be combined with economic benefits<\/strong>. Companies that prepare for PPWR at an early stage gain transparency and process reliability. Fachpack offers the perfect setting for an exchange with experts.<\/p>\n
