Amcor has comprehensively modernised its recycling plant in Heanor, UK, thereby strengthening its recycling infrastructure in Europe. The investment is a key step in the packaging manufacturer's strategy to drive forward the circular economy for flexible plastics.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The plant in Derbyshire processes post-consumer and industrial plastic waste into high-quality recyclates for packaging in various markets. With a modernised washing plant and improved quality and safety systems, an additional 2,800 tonnes of recyclate can now be used for high-performance applications.<\/p>\n

Network for the circular economy<\/h3>\n

In addition to Heanor, Amcor operates a recycling centre in Steinfeld, Germany. Together, the plants form a European network for mechanically recycled plastics. The materials are used in packaging for non-contact-sensitive applications, shrink films for beverage multipacks, tray-wrapped consumer goods and stretch films.<\/p>

Contribution to regulation and sustainability<\/h3>\n

Both sites work with fully integrated processes such as sorting, washing and regranulation, according to the statement. They also have water circulation systems that reduce the ecological footprint. The plants are certified as \u201eZero Waste to Landfill\u201c and help to fulfil requirements such as the UK Plastic Packaging Tax and the planned EU packaging regulation (PPWR).<\/p>\n
