The investment is a key step in the packaging manufacturer's strategy to drive forward the circular economy for flexible plastics.

The plant in Derbyshire processes post-consumer and industrial plastic waste into high-quality recyclates for packaging in various markets. With a modernised washing plant and improved quality and safety systems, an additional 2,800 tonnes of recyclate can now be used for high-performance applications.

Network for the circular economy

In addition to Heanor, Amcor operates a recycling centre in Steinfeld, Germany. Together, the plants form a European network for mechanically recycled plastics. The materials are used in packaging for non-contact-sensitive applications, shrink films for beverage multipacks, tray-wrapped consumer goods and stretch films.

Contribution to regulation and sustainability

Both sites work with fully integrated processes such as sorting, washing and regranulation, according to the statement.
