Ineos Styrolution is expanding its supply of recycled polystyrene for food packaging. Together with Aldi S\u00fcd and Unternehmensgruppe Theo M\u00fcller, the company has developed new sour cream tubs with 30 per cent recycled content, which have been available in many Aldi S\u00fcd shops since the beginning of the year.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In July 2025, the new packaging solution was honoured with the German Packaging Award in the \u201eSustainability: Recycled Material\u201c category. It is seen as an important step towards making food packaging in the mass market more sustainable.<\/p>\n

Cooperation with retailers and the dairy industry<\/h3>\n

The cooperation with Aldi S\u00fcd and Theo M\u00fcller is already the second large-scale market launch of food-grade recycled polystyrene in Germany. Ineos Styrolution is thus positioning itself as a pioneer in the transition to recyclable packaging. According to Rob Buntinx, President EMEA, the company is demonstrating that recycled solutions can fulfil both food safety and performance requirements.<\/p>

Regulatory background<\/h3>\n

The move comes against the backdrop of stricter EU requirements under the forthcoming Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). Ineos Styrolution has already submitted an application to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) for its recycling technology. In doing so, the company is emphasising its goal of making recycled polystyrene usable throughout Europe in accordance with regulatory requirements.<\/p>\n
