The investment of more than CAD 20 million (approx. USD 14.3 million) strengthens the North American supply chain and creates new jobs in the region.

The new building marks the first time Angelcare has operated its own packaging facility for cat litter in Canada. The centre also serves as a national distribution warehouse and produces the Litter Genie Light cat litter from Canadian bentonite. According to the company, the product is additive-free, virtually dust-free and 20 per cent lighter than comparable branded products. One automated line can pack up to 4.6 million boxes per year; two further lines are planned.

According to Angelcare, the building was constructed with a focus on energy efficiency and resource conservation. Sustainable lighting, modern HVAC systems and optimised transport routes are intended to improve the environmental footprint. In the long term, the company plans to develop the site into an innovation centre with an R&D laboratory and training area.

Contribution to regional value creation

The plant will initially create 15 full-time jobs; the workforce is set to double as the export business grows.
