Henkel has opened the Packaging RecycLab in Shanghai. The specialised centre tests how adhesive solutions can improve the recycling of packaging and thus accelerate the transition to a circular economy. The target markets are China and the Asia-Pacific region.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The RecycLab maps real industrial recycling processes and provides data for design-for-recycling decisions along the value chain, according to the company. According to the company, this is based on internationally recognised test methods from the CEPI\/4evergreen framework, which should serve as a reference, particularly in the context of the upcoming EU packaging regulation (PPWR).<\/p>\n

Local tests, data, optimisation<\/h3>\n

The centre combines development, testing, evaluation and cooperation between industry and research. Manufacturers can adapt their choice of materials and packaging structure using systematic services in order to reduce their environmental footprint and combine economic and ecological goals.<\/p>

Cooperation with the China Packaging Federation<\/h3>\n

A delegation from the China Packaging Federation (CPF), led by Li Hua, visited the laboratory at the start. Both sides are exploring deeper cooperation; the CPF sees the facility as a valuable infrastructure for the industry. The visit also saw the launch of the \u201eGreen Packaging Recycling China Tour 2025\u201c torch relay.<\/p>\n

Significance for packaging companies<\/h3>\n

Henkel wants to expand its innovation investments in China and broaden its partner landscape. For packaging companies in APAC, the RecycLab offers a locally available platform for recycling verification and faster implementation of solutions that address regulatory requirements and circularity goals.<\/p>\n
