According to the company, this marks the end of the transitional solution for around 30 municipal partners who have continued to be supplied since the closure of glass production.

Following the closure of glass production last year, Vetropack temporarily continued to process cullet in St-Prex. The company justifies the now final step with the fact that an operation without an associated glass production facility makes neither economic nor ecological sense in the long term. The recycled glass is already being transported to other European plants for further processing, which, according to Vetropack, cannot be a permanent option.

Transition for municipalities and further procedure

Glass recycling will be phased out by the end of February 2026. CEO Johann Reiter emphasises: „Despite the discontinuation of used glass processing in St-Prex, we remain committed to glass recycling in Switzerland.“ He announced that he would be presenting the municipal partners with „concrete options for the future recycling of used glass by long-standing partner companies“ in the near future. The municipalities are free to utilise these solutions or go their own way.
