The solution is based on the re/cycle FunctionalBarrier Paper Ultimate and combines high barrier properties with recyclability.

The aim of the collaboration was to replace conventional, non-recyclable multilayer packaging with a more sustainable alternative. In future, Prymat will be using Mondi's FunctionalBarrier Paper Ultimate for this purpose. The ultra-high barrier solution was selected after extensive testing and fulfils the high requirements for product protection and durability.

The material consists of at least 80 percent high-quality paper and has a functional barrier optimised for recycling. In current CEPI laboratory test procedures for recyclability, it was classified as recyclable. According to Mondi's internal product impact assessment tool, the solution causes significantly lower CO₂ emissions than conventional multilayer packaging made of plastic or aluminium.

Protection against oxygen, moisture and grease

With an oxygen permeability rate of less than 0.5 cm³/m²d and a water vapour permeability rate of less than 0.5 g/m²d, the packaging reliably protects spices from oxygen, moisture and grease.
