At interpack, the KHS Group is presenting KHS Supreme, a solution for the packaging of oxygen-sensitive beverages that combines the advantages of glass with the manageability of PET and utilises Plasmax barrier technology.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

Plasmax barrier technology utilises a wafer-thin, transparent coating of silicon oxide which is applied to the inner wall of the bottle, protecting the contents from oxidation. \u201eThe barrier performance is ideal for premium products such as green tea, which is very sensitive to quality and has to fulfil the highest requirements in markets such as Asia,\u201c explains Philipp Langhammer, Product Manager Barrier Technology at KHS.<\/p>\r\n

The technology originally developed for pharmaceutical glass containers is based on many years of research and process optimisation. Already in the early
The first Plasmax systems were piloted in the food sector in the 2000s. Since then, KHS has further developed its Plasmax barrier and made it available in this
year to large-scale production speeds of up to 60,000 bottles per hour without compromising on protection.<\/p>

Sustainability through recyclability<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Another advantage of Plasmax technology is its environmental friendliness. The glass layer is fully recyclable and can be removed in the recycling process using lye without affecting the material quality of the PET. This distinguishes it from chemical scavenger technologies, which make recycling more difficult. The coating is also fully compatible with recycled PET, which supports the recyclability of the packaging. KHS will be presenting the Supreme bottle at interpack in D\u00fcsseldorf.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
