The VDMA will be presenting pioneering packaging concepts at interpack 2026 in D\u00fcsseldorf. The focus will be on PPWR-compliant solutions and digital innovations.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The packaging industry is facing a period of change, driven by the new EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which comes into effect in August 2026. These regulations require companies to make their packaging solutions more sustainable and circular. The VDMA, in collaboration with research and industrial partners, will be presenting a range of innovative solutions at interpack 2026 in D\u00fcsseldorf that meet these requirements.<\/p>\n

Circular packaging concepts<\/h2>\n

One of the main themes is the development of packaging that is fully recyclable and PPWR-compliant. The Fraunhofer IVV is demonstrating with the \u201ePapure\u201c process how paper-based packaging can be produced without the use of foreign materials such as plastic layers. This technology enables the packaging to be 100% recyclable and compostable.<\/p>

Processing of recyclates<\/h2>\n

A further focus is on the safe processing of recyclates. The Fraunhofer IVV's high-speed impulse welding process \u201eHIS\u201c for sealing mono-films promises significant energy savings and is also suitable for demanding applications.<\/p>\n

Digital Tools and Sustainability<\/h2>\n

Digital tools play a crucial role in optimising packaging processes. Shelf-life prediction tools and the \u201eVera\u201c data system for recording energy and resource data help companies achieve their sustainability goals and create transparency in the supply chain.<\/p>\n

Workshops and further training<\/h2>\n

The programme will be supplemented by circular economy workshops, where participants will gain practical insights into recycling processes. These events aim to raise awareness and impart new skills regarding sustainable practices in the packaging industry.<\/p>\n
