The European Commission has issued a reasoned opinion on Germany's law to adapt packaging law to the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) within the TRIS notification procedure: The standstill period for the legislative process is extended until 17 August 2026.<\/strong><\/p>\n

With the Draft Act on the Implementation of Packaging Law<\/a> The German federal government will adapt national packaging law to the EU Packaging Regulation 2025\/40, which will apply from 12 August 2026. The focus will be on regulations concerning extended producer responsibility, the registration of producers, recycling and reporting obligations, as well as the responsibilities of the Central Agency Packaging Register and the Federal Environment Agency.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the draft contains provisions on the deposit system, the recycled content of single-use beverage packaging, and the mandatory offering of reusable packaging for food and beverages for immediate consumption.<\/p>
