The French industry association Carton Ondul\u00e9 de France (COF) has elected Dominique Lagarde as its new president. He will take office for a two-year term, succeeding Philippe Durand, who has led the association since 2020. According to the association, Durand particularly strengthened the political visibility of the corrugated board industry and represented its interests in national and European regulatory debates.<\/strong><\/p>\n

With the election of Lagarde, Carton Ondul\u00e9 de France intends to further expand its activities in an environment of regulatory changes. The association announced that it will continue to advocate for reliable framework conditions for the industry, highlight the environmental benefits of corrugated cardboard, and underscore the sector's importance to the French economy.<\/p>\n

The organisation points out that its member companies predominantly produce close to their customers, thereby playing an important role in industry, logistics, and trade. Corrugated cardboard, with a recycling rate of 97 percent, is a particularly circular packaging material.<\/p>

Many years of experience in the corrugated board industry<\/h2>\n

Lagarde has over 35 years of experience in the corrugated board industry. After roles at Socar, he moved to Smurfit Kappa in 1998. There, he held various management positions, including head of the French carton division from 2016 to 2022. Subsequently, until 2025, he was responsible for the industrial activities of Smurfit Westrock in France.<\/p>\n

I would like to acknowledge the remarkable work of Philippe Durand, who has significantly strengthened the association's political visibility. Our sector possesses considerable strengths: a high-performing industry, recognised expertise, and a material that fully meets today's environmental requirements. However, like all industrial sectors, we wish for greater recognition from political decision-makers, with whom we must work together to create a more favourable regulatory environment for growth and employment. My aim is to strengthen our collective influence so that our companies can combine environmental requirements with industrial performance.\u201c<\/p>\n

Significant economic factor in France<\/h2>\n

Carton Ondul\u00e9 de France states it represents more than 70 percent of the French corrugated board industry. The sector employs around 14,955 staff at more than 80 production sites and achieved revenues of 3.4 billion euros in 2025. Production stood at approximately 2.5 million tonnes of corrugated board. Furthermore, the association highlights a recycling rate of 97 percent and a proportion of 90 percent recycled fibres in material usage.<\/p>\n
