Siemer Verpackung has taken over Mindener Lackwerkstatt and, with the integration of screen printing technology, is expanding its offering with high-quality finishing solutions using UV lacquers and water-based lacquers. The Lower Saxony-based company can now offer both special optical effects and sustainable coating options for fibre-based packaging from a single source.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

With this takeover, the family business is further expanding its range of environmentally friendly packaging solutions. New to the portfolio are, in particular, water-based coatings, which represent a sustainable alternative to UV lacquers. The coating workshop specialises in varnishing, print finishing, and functional coatings for packaging. The company's foundation is a screen printing machine with numerous individual configurations.<\/p>\r\n

\u201eThe acquisition will be an ideal addition to our portfolio,\u201c says Maren Grondey, who manages Siemer Verpackung together with her sister Laura Grondey. Until now, the company only had its own offset printing technology and used external service providers for screen printing solutions, including the lacquer workshop.<\/p>

\u201eFor our customers, this means: even more options for customising packaging, with high opacity, on the most diverse materials, and with special effects that aren't achievable with offset printing.\u201c<\/p>\r\n

Screen printing is particularly suitable for matt and gloss effects, luminous special colours, metallic effects, white colours on natural board, and tactile varnishes that stand out from the rest of the surface. UV varnishes are mostly used, but these are critical in terms of recyclability (de-inking).<\/p>\r\n

The paint shop technology enables water-based applications. This uses resource-friendly raw materials that are low in odour, safe for skin and food contact, and simpler to recycle. The water-based paints and varnishes are particularly suitable for natural, unvarnished cardboard, as there is no creasing or cracking, unlike with comparable UV applications, and the adhesion to the substrate is perfect.<\/p>\r\n

Improved recyclability<\/h2>\r\n

The new screen-printing technology offers Siemer Packaging further advantages: it is capable of applying a water-based opaque white with the highest degree of whiteness and enormous opacity. This opaque white can optionally be coloured with colour concentrates, for example to represent special colours.<\/p>\r\n

Screen printing technology can also create elegant-looking metallic or glossy effects without the need for foil stamping. For this, the paint workshop uses water-based clear varnish into which pigments are incorporated to provide the desired effect. In this way, the packaging is significantly more recyclable.<\/p>\r\n

\u201eThe possibilities of screen printing are largely underestimated. With the new machine, we can meet the highest demands for quality and sustainability simultaneously.\u201c<\/p>\r\n

The family-run company, founded in 1906 in Ronnenberg near Hanover, primarily offers folding boxes, but also gift packaging, displays, mailings, and other fibre-based products. Under the sub-brand \u201eJunge Schachteln\u201c (Young Boxes), sustainable packaging is produced in particular. Customers include many companies in the organic sector, including manufacturers of natural cosmetics.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
