In Bangladesh, SIG, together with the SIG Foundation, developed the ‚Cartons for Good‘ project to tackle this issue. This project has now been officially handed over to the Akij Monowara Trust, ushering in a new phase of local ownership and efficiency.

The ‚Cartons for Good‘ project, initiated seven years ago, aims to transform surplus fruit and vegetables into nutritious, long-lasting meals. These meals are filled into specially designed mobile filling facilities using SIG carton packs, conceptualised by the company's experts. These packaging solutions allow for safe storage of food for up to nine months without refrigeration.

The technology behind this project is designed to reduce post-harvest food losses and close nutritional gaps. The filling facilities are compact and designed for on-site operation and maintenance, ensuring sustainable use.

Successful pilot phase completed

After the pilot phase concludes in March 2026, the system will be stable and processes will run smoothly. The facilities are in excellent condition and ready for continued operation. The handover to Akij Monowara Trust, which is part of the Akij Group, ensures continuity and local ownership. The Akij Group has been a customer of SIG since 2016, further solidifying the collaboration.

Sustainable impact on the community

The SIG Foundation, together with its partners, is committed to initiatives that not only strengthen communities but also have a positive impact on the environment. Handing over the project to a local partner such as the Akij Monowara Trust is a crucial step to ensure the project's sustainability and effectiveness.

SourceSIG

SIG and the SIG Foundation have handed over the ‚Cartons for Good‘ project to the Akij Monowara Trust.
