This was announced by the Glass Packaging Action Forum. Although the figure refers to sales in tonnes, the Aktionsforum, which is part of the Federal Association of the German Glass Industry, does not provide a current absolute figure. In 2016, the German glass industry sold 4.1 million tonnes of container glass.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Sales growth<\/strong> was primarily generated abroad. The figures there rose by 8.4 per cent, while they remained constant in Germany. In the product segment <strong>Beverage bottles<\/strong> sales growth of 2.7 per cent was recorded, while sales of glass packaging for <strong>Food<\/strong> and for <strong>Pharmaceuticals<\/strong> and <strong>Cosmetics<\/strong> there was an increase of 2.5 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>Sales of bottles for non-alcoholic beverages such as <strong>Water, juices and milk<\/strong>. The segment <strong>Wine<\/strong> and sparkling wine, on the other hand, reported stable sales figures.<\/p>\n<p>Sales of glass packaging for the food industry rose only slightly, by 1.5 per cent. <strong>Fruit, vegetables and preserves<\/strong>. By contrast, manufacturers of other glass food packaging sold 3.1 per cent more.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Johann Overath, Managing Director of the Federation of the German Glass Industry, expects the growth trend to continue for the rest of the year: \u201eWe are optimistic about the second half of 2018, as the trend for glass packaging among consumers remains unbroken.\u201c In this context, the action forum refers to the <strong>good environmental properties of glass packaging<\/strong>. They are made from raw materials that are found in nature and can often be sourced locally.
