The plastic lid of the packaging has also been ecologically converted as part of the optimisation. This makes ALDI the first food retailer to offer its customers a completely sustainable option.<\/p>\n<h2>Material with FSC seal<\/h2>\n<p>The Aldi Nord and Aldi S\u00fcd Groups continue to consistently promote the <strong>Reducing the amount of plastic<\/strong> one: As part of the ALDI packaging mission, the discounters are phasing out cotton buds with plastic shafts and replacing them with a sustainable product.<\/p>\n<p>The new cotton swab has a <strong>FSC-certified paper stock<\/strong> and a cotton wool head that is 100 per cent made of <strong>Organic cotton<\/strong> from controlled organic cultivation. After the changeover in both corporate groups, the elimination of the plastic lid will result in an additional annual plastic reduction of more than 70 tonnes. According to the European Commission, these are among the tenth most common types of plastic waste found in the sea.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201eAs part of the ALDI packaging mission, we are delighted that we will also be doing away with plastic lids in the future after doing away with plastic shafts.\u201c<\/p>\n<p>Julia Adou, Director Corporate Responsibility at Aldi S\u00fcd<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The company had already replaced the plastic shaft with a paper shaft at the beginning of this year.
