The Austrian family-owned company is now building a plant for HDPE recycling in Mexico. It will produce 15,000 tonnes of recycled pellets per year.<\/p>\n<p>In Toluca (capital of the Central American state of M\u00e9xico), the <a href=\"https:\/\/packaging-journal.de\/?s=ALPLA\">ALPLA<\/a> acquired a plot of land and from autumn 2020 will be building a<strong> State-of-the-art recycling plant for HDPE<\/strong>. Commissioning is scheduled for the second half of 2021. The<strong> Investment sum is around 15 million euros<\/strong>65 jobs will be created.<\/p>\n<p>The company will be managed as a 100 per cent subsidiary of ALPLA. The plant has <strong>an annual capacity of 15,000 tonnes of HDPE regranulate<\/strong> for applications in the non-food sector, for example packaging solutions for personal care or household cleaners. We invest in regions where the demand for recycled materials is not yet so high. In this way, we give used plastics a value and act as a role model for the realisation of the circular economy.\" <strong>Georg L\u00e4sser<\/strong>, Head of Recycling<\/p>\n<p><strong>Carlos Torres<\/strong>Regional Manager Mexico, adds: \"So <strong>we generate demand on the collection side and promote the development of the necessary infrastructure<\/strong>. We can also offer our regional customers the required circularity of recyclable materials.\"<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Many years of experience in the region<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>In Mexico, ALPLA has many years of experience in recycling post-consumer PET. As early as 2005\u00a0<em>Industria Mexicana de Reciclaje<\/em>\u00a0(IMER) <strong>the first bottle-to-bottle recycling plant in Latin America<\/strong> at the start. IMER is a<strong> Joint venture between ALPLA M\u00e9xico, Coca-Cola M\u00e9xico and Coca-Cola Femsa<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past 15 years, the partners have joined forces to <strong>Infrastructure for the collection and recycling of used PET beverage bottles<\/strong> established. The plant now produces almost 15,000 tonnes of food-grade regranulate from post-consumer PET every year.
