This tool is designed to provide customers with a simple but well-founded assessment of the recyclability of their packaging.

In order to support manufacturers in the recycling-friendly design of packaging in particular, the Green dot developed the RecyclingCOMPASS. The digital tool categorises recyclability in the German system in just a few steps.

RecyclingCOMPASS as a simple tool

Recycling-friendly plastic packaging that remains in the economic cycle instead of being incinerated can make a decisive contribution to correcting the poor image of plastic. Retailers are also calling for improved recyclability and are developing corresponding strategies. It is clearly not so easy for manufacturers to assess the recyclability of their packaging simply and reliably. The RecyclingCOMPASS is designed to help with this digitally. Together with the result, it shows the user a precise explanation of the result. This can provide the user with initial tips for optimisation. The tool is constantly updated based on the underlying standards.

New minimum standards have been included

And so it is again now. Specifically, Der Grüne Punkt has adapted the online tool to the current minimum standard published by the Central Agency Packaging Register at the beginning of September 2020. The assessment is based on the method of the cyclos-HTP Institute (CHI).

Despite the complexity of the data, the RecyclingCOMPASS remains simple and practical to use. All packaging made of plastic, metal or fibre-based materials can be tested for recyclability in just a few input steps. An assessment report can then be created. The recyclability is categorised using six different clusters.

By using the RecyclingCOMPASS can not only potentially save costs. The ecological footprint of the packaging can also be minimised.

Source: Dual System

Minimum standard for recyclable packaging published

"Der Grüne Punkt" celebrates its anniversary

Der Grüne Punkt has presented an update of its RecyclingCOMPASS.
