A vegan chocolate dessert will be sold with a "Spoonie". A spoon that you can eat.

The startup Spoontainable is behind the edible spoon. With the "Spoonie", the founders from Heidelberg want to offer a sustainable alternative to disposable plastic cutlery. The spoon is made from salvaged food. These are by-products from chocolate production, for example.

The shape of the edible spoon substitute is reminiscent of an ice-cream scoop. There are two different types of "Spoonies": a variant made from oat husks and a "Choc" variant made from cocoa shell fibres. The latter is attached to the "Made with Luve" dessert from ALDI.

Sustainable plastic alternative made from natural ingredients

In 2019, founders Amelie Vermeer and Julia Piechotta presented the sustainable spoon as part of the ALDI Accelerator programme.
