{"id":39085,"date":"2020-10-27T16:11:32","date_gmt":"2020-10-27T15:11:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/packaging-journal.de\/?p=39085"},"modified":"2020-10-27T17:00:44","modified_gmt":"2020-10-27T16:00:44","slug":"plastic-bottle-from-carbon-emissions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/packaging-journal.de\/en\/plastikflasche-aus-kohlenstoff-emissionen\/","title":{"rendered":"First packaging made from captured carbon emissions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As part of their innovative partnership, LanzaTech, Total and L'Or\u00e9al have unveiled the world's first sustainable packaging made from recaptured and recycled carbon emissions.<\/p>\n<h2>The conversion process takes place in three steps:<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>First, LanzaTech captures industrial carbon emissions<\/strong> and converts it into ethanol using a unique biological process.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lanzatech.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LanzaTech<\/a> is a New Zealand company that is a world leader in gas fermentation, producing sustainable fuels and chemicals through biological conversion of carbon emissions from waste streams, including industrial off-gases, syngas produced from any biomass resource (e.g. municipal solid waste, industrial organic waste, agricultural waste) and reformed biogas. LanzaTech's expertise in fermentation process upscaling, reactor design, machine learning and synthetic biology has enabled the company to commercialise its recycling process and demonstrate the production of over 100 different chemicals.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Then Total converts<\/strong> thanks to an innovative dehydration process developed jointly with IFP Axens, <strong>converts the ethanol into ethylene<\/strong>, <strong>before it is polymerised into polyethylene<\/strong>, which has the same technical properties as the fossil version.<br \/>\nTotal is a diversified energy company that produces and markets fuels, natural gas and electricity and has set itself the goal of becoming the leading responsible energy company.<\/li>\n<li><strong>L'Or\u00e9al uses this polythene for the production of packaging<\/strong>. It has the same quality and properties as conventional polyethylene.<br \/>\nL'Or\u00e9al has been committed to beauty for over 100 years.
