Why buy a new spray bottle of household cleaner every time when you can refill it? This was the thinking behind Greiner Packaging's development of a new refill concept for plastic spray bottles for household chemicals together with its in-house design agency DesPro.

Multiple dosing has multiple advantages

The newly developed 200 ml refill bottle consists of HDPE, PP or PET material and weighs just over 16 grams in its original form. It contains 200 ml of concentrate, which later results in 10 times the amount of liquid distributed over four spray bottle refills. The safe 50 ml dosage can also be adapted to 30 or 40 ml. This is done via a Special valve and a guide nozzle that fits all standard spray bottles.

Thanks to their shape, the new refill bottles are suitable for practical squeezing and consistent dosing. The new refill bottles save four plastic spray bottles including attachments per bottle. This is because a 500 ml spray bottle with a spray head can provide 10,000 spray units of 1 ml each over its life cycle and can therefore be utilised to the maximum.

„When developing the new refill bottle, our primary focus was of course on material savings. These are multiplied many times over by the intelligent refill cycle - up to 85 per cent. This can save up to 1,000 tonnes of plastic per year, assuming that 20 million standard spray bottles are replaced by our multidose refill solution. In order to act sustainably, reusing and refilling a spray bottle must become the new normal.“ Tõnu Kundla, International Business Development Manager at Greiner Packaging

Refill bottle attracts attention on the shelf

The refillable bottles developed by Greiner Packaging and DesPro attract attention at the point of sale due to their size alone. They can also be designed and decorated on a large scale and attractively for consumers. There is no longer any need for outer packaging, which saves even more material and emphasises the sustainable approach.

The simple, intuitive and safe dosage makes the bottle extremely consumer-friendly. And the option of also made of PCR plastic This makes the cost-efficient solution even more sustainable.

Maximum flexibility and recyclability

The refill bottle can be made of HDPE, PP or PET, depending on customer requirements. The lid can be made of HDPE or PP. It is important that the overall packaging Optimally recyclable according to the packaging manufacturer. Customers are also advised individually on each project in accordance with the principles of the circular economy.

The valve in the lid enables optimum and precise dosing of the product. The Valve can be mechanically separated later in the recycling process which increases the recyclability of the overall packaging.

When using Labels for decoration recommends Greiner Packaging a compatible choice of materials that maximises recyclability.
