{"id":42795,"date":"2021-03-05T13:26:45","date_gmt":"2021-03-05T12:26:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/packaging-journal.de\/?p=42795"},"modified":"2021-03-05T16:02:12","modified_gmt":"2021-03-05T15:02:12","slug":"vdw-sales-plus-falling-revenues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/packaging-journal.de\/en\/vdw-absatzplus-sinkenden-erloesen\/","title":{"rendered":"Corrugated board: increased sales with falling revenues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The corrugated board manufacturers organised in the German Corrugated Board Industry Association (VDW) reported an increase in sales of 3.9% for the fourth quarter of 2020, while revenue fell by 4.6%.<\/p>\n<p>The members of the German Association of the Corrugated Board Industry (VDW) recorded a 3.9 per cent increase in sales in the fourth quarter of 2020 compared to the same period of the previous year (adjusted for working days). In absolute figures, this corresponds to a <strong>Sales increase of 173.5 million square metres of corrugated board<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, the <a href=\"https:\/\/packaging-journal.de\/tag\/=vdw\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-schema-attribute=\"\">VDW<\/a> organised corrugated board manufacturers sold over 2.1 billion square metres in the last three months of the year. According to Wolfrum, the change in consumer purchasing behaviour is also contributing to the positive sales trend.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201eDue to the restrictions on bricks-and-mortar retail, consumers are increasingly shopping online again, as they did in the spring.\u201c <strong>Dr Oliver Wolfrum<\/strong>VDW Managing Director<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>According to the <strong>E-Commerce Association bevh<\/strong> industry turnover with goods rose from 72.6 billion euros to 83.3 billion euros in 2020. This corresponds to an increase of 14.6 per cent compared to 2019.<\/p><div id=\"packa-3910552826\" class=\"packa-inhalt\"><!--noptimize--><script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-2686439340972671\" crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block;text-align:center\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-2686439340972671\" data-ad-slot=\"6171251825\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><!--\/noptimize--><\/div>\n<p>\u201eThere <strong>Nine out of ten shipping goods in corrugated board<\/strong> \u201cThe significant growth in volumes is offset by a worrying trend in revenue, however,\u201e says Wolfrum. With average revenue of 52.2 cents per square metre of corrugated board, the fourth quarter of 2020 was 4.6% lower than the same period in the previous year.<\/p>\n<h2>Price increases for base paper announced<\/h2>\n<p>Companies are feeling additional pressure on the cost side. From September to December, the <strong>Average paper prices increased by 12.9 per cent<\/strong> and are currently at a price level last seen in September 2019.
