The Cologne-based company igus is one of its supporters. Now another partner, the chemical company Dow, is joining in.<\/p>\n<p>Converting plastic back into oil in just 25 minutes - that's the promise of the <em>Hydrothermal Plastic Recycling Solution<\/em> of the startup <a href=\"https:\/\/muratechnology.com\/technology\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-schema-attribute=\"\">Mura Technology.<\/a> To make the transition to a sustainable circular economy a success, globally active industrial companies such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.igus.de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-schema-attribute=\"\">igus<\/a> the development of this technology. (Image: igus GmbH)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Mura Technology turns plastic waste into oil<\/h2>\n<p>With the <em>Hydrothermal Plastic Recycling Solution<\/em> (HydroPRS), Mura Technology has developed a <strong>Innovative technology for chemical plastic recycling<\/strong> has been developed. The aim is to establish a sustainable circular economy for plastics and prevent plastic waste from entering the environment. Dow Chemical, a global developer and producer of plastics, is now joining the company as another major partner. The collaboration will further drive the scaling of Mura's advanced recycling process<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Plastic waste becomes new packaging<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The world's first plant to use HydroPRS on a large scale is currently being built in Teesside, UK. The first line with a <strong>Capacity of 20,000 tonnes per year<\/strong> is expected to go into operation in 2022. Once all four lines have been completed, Mura will be able to, <strong>recycle up to 80,000 tonnes of plastic waste per year<\/strong> and Dow with the raw materials obtained through the process.<\/p><div id=\"packa-1580400500\" class=\"packa-inhalt\"><!--noptimize--><script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-2686439340972671\" crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block;text-align:center\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-2686439340972671\" data-ad-slot=\"6171251825\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><!--\/noptimize--><\/div>\n<p>Dow will use this to develop new plastics for food packaging and other packaging products that will eventually be fed back into global supply chains. Dow's commitment is also designed to demonstrate that Mura's solution can meet both the sustainability and performance requirements of the industry and that the products made with HydroPRS can be used on a large scale to produce new plastics.<\/p>\n<p>Also<strong> igus Managing Director Frank Blase<\/strong> welcomes the cooperation: \u201eStrong partnerships are needed to help this technology achieve a breakthrough and thus have a tangible effect on the environment.
