Ratioform has developed an environmentally friendly packaging solution for the food start-up Kn\u00f6delfein: it uses hemp thermal bags and cooling elements made from recycled plastic that are filled with pure water.<\/p>\n

From beetroot dumplings with chimi churri to cinnamon dumplings with a nut nougat centre: the Cologne food start-up Kn\u00f6delfein<\/a> reinterprets the hearty cuisine from the mountains and travels to events and functions in food trucks and trailers. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the company has recently started shipping its products online and needed a packaging solution that was as resource-efficient as possible. A completely sustainable Refrigerated packaging for direct delivery<\/strong> was designed by Ratioform, a supplier of transport packaging.<\/p>\n

\"With our dumplings, we bring alpine cuisine to life. Many of our customers are very environmentally conscious, active and like to go hiking in the mountains. An insulated box made of polystyrene simply doesn't fit the bill. When it came to the packaging for our dumpling packs, we were therefore sustainable approach<\/strong> particularly important.\" Christoph Schrader<\/strong>founder and managing director of Kn\u00f6delfein<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Transport also depends on the Constant cold chain<\/strong> which also works reliably in warm outside temperatures, as the start-up's dumpling dishes are made from fresh ingredients.<\/p>

Sustainable refrigerated packaging for Kn\u00f6delfein<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In the packaging concept developed for Kn\u00f6delfein, Ratioform uses the Hemp thermal bags<\/strong> from Landpack. The bags are made from 100 per cent natural raw materials and are completely biodegradable. \"Hemp insulates just as well as modern insulating materials,\" explains Sylvia Meierhans, Product Manager at Ratioform<\/a>. \"And thanks to the soft padding of the Landpack bags, the dumplings and jars of sauce are perfectly protected from knocks during transport.\"<\/p>\n

Cardboard boxes made from recycled material in various sizes and thicknesses are used for the outer packaging - matching the various Kn\u00f6delfein gourmet packages offered in the webshop. The temperature is regulated by Cooling elements<\/strong> from Landpack made from recycled plastic, which filled with pure water<\/strong> are. With Ratioform's packaging concept, the food stays fresh for chilled for at least 48 hours<\/strong>. Kn\u00f6delfein sends the dumpling parcels to its customers by express delivery.<\/p>\n

The fact that the creative dumplings and sustainable packaging are well received by customers is demonstrated by the strong growth in demand: after the web shop went live in October last year, Kn\u00f6delfein is now shipping Up to 2,000 parcels per month<\/strong>. \"Our environmentally friendly packaging concept, which we created with Ratioform, has been very well received,\" says Christoph Schrader. \"A customer recently wrote to me to say that he felt like he was in an Alpine meadow when he opened the box. The thermal bags and the smell of the fresh straw that we use as filling material is simply a Great unpacking experience<\/strong>.\"<\/p>\n
