The IBC inner containers and drum bodies are produced with 40 per cent recycled plastic. This is obtained by Schütz itself through its worldwide collection and reconditioning programme.

Resource-saving overall concept

Multiple use and recycling: The entire life cycle of Schütz IBCs is designed to maximise environmental friendliness. During reconditioning as part of the Schütz Ticket Service the inner containers of reclaimed IBCs are removed from the steel cage and subjected to a complex recycling process. They are shredded, cleaned and finally regranulated. Special degassing extruders ensure a low-odour, homogeneous quality. The recovered HDPE recyclate is used by the company in a closed cycle: 100 per cent of it flows back into the internal production of plastic packaging components - including corner protectors and plastic pallets. This is why Schütz IBCs have always had an exceptionally high proportion of recycled material. Depending on the type of pallet, this amounts to between 36 and 55 per cent of the plastic in the entire IBC.

Schütz Green Layer saves additional CO2 one

With the new Schütz Green Layer IBCs, the company has increased this rate even further. In these containers in particular, high-quality recycled material is also used for the production of the inner container. The inner bladder alone in the innovative Green Layer model has a Recyclate content of 40 per cent. This corresponds to an additional CO2-savings of at least 8 kilograms per IBC.

The middle layer of the IBC inner container from Schütz's Green Layer series has a recycled content of 40 per cent. The inner and outer layers of this packaging are still made of new HDPE material. This ensures that both the filling product and the environment only come into direct contact with new material - a significant contribution to protecting the quality of the filling product. Equipped with an all-plastic pallet, the total proportion of recycled plastic in this special IBC model is as high as 73 per cent.

The new IBCs from Schütz are equipped with a UN authorisation and are therefore also suitable for numerous applications in the hazardous goods sector. They have a uniform appearance. The outer layer is completely black and avoids colour variations, which often occur when using recyclate in IBC inner containers. Visual strip enable the user to recognise the current fill level in the Green Layer IBC at any time.

Launch on the European market

With the European Green Deal and the Circular Economy Action Plan, the European Union has defined the goals and framework conditions for resource-conserving economic growth. The new Green Layer products already fulfil the future legal requirements for the use of recyclate in packaging. In order to ensure a stable supply of IBCs and drums with recycled plastic material, Schütz emphasises the importance of the active involvement of customers and sellers.

Only if there is a sufficient supply of recyclate from the Schütz Ticket Service, the global Schütz system for the reconditioning and recycling of industrial packaging, can a corresponding security of supply be guaranteed. The market launch of Green Layer products therefore requires close coordination with customers and is initially limited to Europe. The first pilot projects have already been successfully launched here. Future expansion into other regions is possible and planned thanks to the global production network with state-of-the-art multi-layer extrusion blow moulding systems.

SourceContactor

Schütz offers its IBCs and plastic drums with high-quality recyclate in the new Green Layer versions.
