In the new transport packaging from Kn\u00fcppel Verpackung, the foam pads that are usually glued on to fix the packaged goods and absorb shocks are now replaced by elastic cardboard pads. They have the same cushioning properties due to the material's resilience.<\/p>\n

Polyethylene foam is actually an ideal material for the inner packaging used to transport sensitive components. It optimally absorbs shocks that occur during parcel shipping, as the material then straightens up again and returns to its original shape. At the same time, it fixes the packaged goods in the outer carton. However, there is one catch: Foam is not sustainable.<\/strong> However, this is increasingly being demanded by customers - both in the B2C and B2B sectors.<\/p>\n

Cardboard pads protect sensitive devices<\/h2>\n

For the company ADVA, a provider of telecommunications equipment for fibre optic-based mobile data transmission technology, developed Billet<\/a> therefore a folding packaging made of corrugated cardboard with multilayer elasticated cardboard padding glued to the inside<\/strong> to house the company's sensitive equipment. The challenge was to find a cellulose-based solution with the same resilience as foam. This was achieved through a constructive design with multi-layer cardboard.<\/p>

In order to obtain the authorisation for parcel shipping, the Billet<\/a> numerous Standardised load and drop tests<\/strong> with various case sequences for the new packaging.<\/p>\n

The packaging solution with the cellulose-based elastic padding is now ready for the market and is to go into series production in five-digit annual quantities in three to four module sizes<\/strong>. This single-material solution is ideal for disposable transport in particular, as it reduces or avoids the consumption and therefore disposal of plastic. This is not only good for the environment, but also saves costs. At the same time, the packaging solution guarantees optimum product protection and safety on the way from the manufacturer to the customer.<\/p>\n
