The aim is to be able to offer customers not only the most sustainable, but also the best possible solution for each individual project. In Nuremberg, among other things Alternative materials to conventional plastics presented. These do not require any new concepts for filling and use, such as paper cups for the ice cream market. Prototypes made from renewable materials will also be presented: with the Bornewables portfolio For the first time, renewable resources have been integrated into the production of polypropylene (PP) food cups with in-mould labelling (IML) as a decoration technology. The new premium polyolefins come from Borealis.

On the other hand Recycled materials for new packaging If recycled PET is used, recycling chains can be kept circular in the future. Greiner Packaging is currently developing prototypes made from r-PET HTS, for example - this is recycled PET that is suitable for hot sterilisation and can therefore withstand high temperatures and steam. r-PS, recycled polystyrene, is also already being used as a drop-in solution for yoghurt pots. It behaves exactly like virgin material during processing and requires no adjustments; the productivity of the systems also remains identical.

Greiner shows cardboard-plastic combinations

For the first time, there is also a further development of the familiar cardboard-plastic combinations: whereas until now it was still up to the consumer to separate the cardboard wrap from the plastic cup and then dispose of it, the new Greiner Packaging has developed the new K3-r100, a solution in which the cardboard wrap detaches itself from the plastic cup during the waste collection process before the packaging arrives at the recycling plant. The Innovative tear-off solution, which makes the separation of plastic and cardboard more intuitive and easier, remains the same for packaging. This means that environmentally conscious consumers can still separate the packaging themselves.

Also digital watermarks, which are also being used on cardboard-plastic combinations in initial trials, will be an issue: The stamp-sized codes, which are not visible on the packaging surface at first glance, convey a range of information relating to the packaging attributes - from the manufacturer to the waste management system, the article number, the plastic type or composition in the case of multilayer packaging through to information relating to use in the food or non-food industry.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display:block;text-align:center" data-ad-layout="in-article" data-ad-format="fluid" data-ad-client="ca-pub-2686439340972671" data-ad-slot="6171251825"></ins>

Cardboard packaging

Together with Greiner Packaging, joint venture partner Cardbox Packaging was represented at the trade fair: The company produces creative packaging solutions from cardboard - and this complements Greiner Packaging's range as a sustainable raw material.
