Woodly, the wood-based packaging film produced by Wipak, is now being used to package Finnish sausages. Manufacturer HKscan is thus taking a further step towards a climate-neutral food chain.<\/p>\n

The Northern European food company HKScan<\/a> has been recognised for its HK Maakarit brand of artisan grill sausages and the Kariniemen grill sausage range. launches the wood-based plastic packaging Woodly from Wipak on the Finnish market<\/strong>. The manufacturer has set itself the goal of making its own industrial production carbon-neutral by the end of 2025 and the entire value chain from producer to consumer by the end of 2040 at the latest.<\/p>\n

Woodly as a replacement for petroleum-based film<\/h2>\n

The main raw material of the Woodly material - softwood cellulose - comes from from certified, sustainably managed forests<\/strong>. The material's renewability makes it a viable replacement for fossil-based packaging materials. The Woodly film produced by Wipak has the same properties as conventional films used for this type of packaging application. According to Wipal, Woodly reduces the carbon dioxide emissions of the finished packaging film compared to conventional plastic packaging by around 50 per cent.<\/strong><\/p>

For the application of Woodly plastics in the respective sausage products of HK Maakarit and Kariniemen, HKScan has entered into a partnership with Woodly Oy, the developer of the wood-based plastics, and the Packaging manufacturer Wipak as the developer of the packaging film<\/strong> closed.<\/p>\n
