Three sustainable packaging solutions have made it to the final of the German Sustainability Award. The final winner will be announced at the German Sustainability Award ceremony on 3 December 2021 in D\u00fcsseldorf.<\/p>\n

With the Special price packaging<\/strong> The German Sustainability Award Foundation, in cooperation with the Rewe Group, is honouring more sustainable product packaging ideas on the occasion of the 10th German Sustainability Award. \u201ePackaging must become better,\u201c explains Stefan Schulze-Hausmann<\/strong>, initiator of the German Sustainability Award. \u201eWe depend on hygienic, transport-safe and informative protection for products, but we need less of it and smarter solutions. Our finalists show how this can be done. Together, we want to inspire the various industries to make their packaging fit for the future.\u201c<\/p>\n

The finalists in detail<\/h2>\n

Packaging paper from Gmund\u00a0 <\/strong><\/h3>\n

Gmund Papier has come out on top with a packaging paper that is made from 100 per cent European hemp fibres<\/strong> exists.<\/p>

They offer ecological advantages over wood fibres: Their length makes them stronger and more frequently recyclable. The plant fibres can be harvested 2-3 times a year and have a high yield per unit area. As well as largely avoiding the use of pesticides, hemp cultivation also offers benefits for the soil, insects and field birds. Gmund's paper is currently the only industrially available packaging paper made from this plant.<\/p>\n

EatTainable reusable system from Rieber<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The EatTainable reusable system organised digitally by Rieber is a form of precycling that aims to avoid packaging waste.<\/p>\n

The reusable containers for food delivery and collection services can be reused several thousand times and are 100 per cent recyclable. The odourless, antibacterial and dishwasher-safe Stainless steel packaging<\/strong> in various sizes enables versatile use. The Rieber Connect system is also intended to create reusable partnerships with other manufacturers of reusable glasses or plastic containers, for example, in order to reduce packaging waste in the out-of-home catering sector in the long term.<\/p>\n

Blister packaging from Koch Pac-Systeme<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The third finalist chosen by the jury was a blister pack made of moulded paper with particularly low CO2<\/sub>-footprint was selected.<\/p>\n

The \u201eCycleForm\u201c from the mechanical engineering company KochPac-Systeme is manufactured using a new type of process. Here, a flat cardboard box can be moulded into a \u201etray\u201c and sealed with a cardboard rear wall. This allows products such as toothbrushes or razors to be packaged dust-tight and hygienically. The packaging is also plastic-free and 100 per cent recyclable. Compared to conventional packaging, the packaging solution is characterised by lower energy and water consumption.<\/p>\n

The expert jury of the German Sustainability Award decided on the finalists and the winner. The winner will be announced on 3 December 2021<\/strong> will be announced at the German Sustainability Award ceremony in D\u00fcsseldorf.<\/p>\n
