From 30 January to 2 February 2022, ProSweets Cologne in Cologne will focus on sustainable packaging for the snack and confectionery industry. The industry has an interest in switching to environmentally friendly materials such as paper or recyclable mono films and packaging processes that are adapted to them. Looking at the supplier fair for the confectionery and snack industry, which takes place at the same time as ISM, it is clear that the sustainable packaging of the wide variety of confectionery and snacks not only requires more modern packaging materials, but also highly flexible machines that can process them.<\/strong><\/p>

In the battle for consumer favour at the point of sale, packaging is becoming increasingly important. At the latest with the \u201eGreen Deal<\/a>\u201c of the EU puts recycling-friendly design at the centre of advertising and communication. Sustainable Packaging<\/strong> has become an important aspect for the entire confectionery and snack industry and will also be presented at the ProSweets Cologne and the ISM<\/a> play a central role. According to a recent survey by the German Packaging Institute<\/a> (dvi), 44 per cent of consumers in Germany consider packaging to be more sustainable than ever before.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Harmonising environmental friendliness and functionality<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The 3Rs principle - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle - is firmly anchored in the industry's strategies. The latest advances include both Material savings<\/strong> as well as the Use of new packaging materials<\/strong> up to optimised processes<\/strong> and intelligent designs for recycling.<\/p>

For the exhibiting companies at the Cologne trade fair centre, the decisive factor is therefore whether and how the switch to sustainable packaging materials can be implemented without compromising on the quality of the packaging. One current trend in packaging development cannot be overlooked: Where plastic can be dispensed with, plastic packaging is now being used. Paper or cardboard<\/strong> used. The paper solutions have integrated heat sealability and moisture barriers against water vapour. At the same time, they consist of up to 95 per cent renewable materials.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\u201eWhat was unthinkable for most manufacturers just a few years ago has now come a long way because more and more More fibre-based packaging alternatives<\/strong> with a barrier function are replacing plastics,\u201c confirms Peter D\u00e9silets, Managing Director of Pacoon GmbH. The Munich-based agency for packaging design and sustainability will be presenting solutions for confectionery and snacks as part of a special show in Hall 10.1.<\/p>

Packaging machine manufacturers are also facing a challenge: they have to combine the technological and economic aspects of moving away from plastic. Customised Modular systems<\/strong>, the consistent use of Robotics<\/strong> and the flexible conversion to New packaging materials<\/strong> pave the way to greater sustainability. For the developers, the machinability of the new packaging materials is the ultimate in avoiding quality fluctuations, incorrect packaging and product damage.<\/p>
