Every year, around eight million tonnes of plastic waste ends up in our oceans. Gerresheimer is committed to returning plastic waste to the material cycle. In addition to the already established cosmetics packaging made from various blends of recycled PET (rPET), the company now also offers rPET made from ocean-bound plastic. Gerresheimer presented this offer to its customers for the first time at Luxepack in Monaco.<\/strong><\/p>

The packaging material is suitable for care products and cosmetics packaging<\/strong> for a wide variety of products such as shower gels, hair shampoos, body lotions, facial cleansing products and various creams.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

No significant difference to PET virgin material<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Niels D\u00fcring and his team see very clear advantages in its use: The plastic collected from the oceans consists of made from 100 per cent PET and is recyclable<\/strong>. As less energy is required for recycling, the CO2<\/sub>-demand during production. As a result, recycling saves both raw materials and energy.<\/p>

Gerresheimer<\/a> has carried out a complete dimensional analysis of the material together with a functional test. The results show that it no significant difference between this material and untreated PET material<\/strong> is available. Only the basic colour of the ocean-bound material differs slightly from the PET virgin material.<\/p>

Gerresheimer<\/a> obtains the recycled, ocean-bound plastic from an experienced and certified partner company, which collects the material and selects and processes it accordingly for use in production.<\/p>
