The Starbucks coffee chain has announced its intention to trial a reusable cup system in selected London shops. In the longer term, the company plans to implement the reusable cup system in all 4,000 shops in Europe, the Middle East and Africa by 2025.<\/strong><\/p>

Since 21 February, customers at Starbucks shops in London's Canary Wharf financial district have been able to drink their coffee in the company's new reusable cups. A deposit of one pound is required for the cup<\/strong>, customers receive a discount of 25 pence when ordering.<\/p>

When asked, a spokesperson for the company explained that the cups were made from Lightweight, recyclable polypropylene<\/strong> (PP) can be produced. The cups are expected to have a service life of 30 uses.<\/p>

The test phase, which will also take place in the shops in Geneva, is scheduled to last two months. By 2025, the company wants to introduce a reusable system in all its shops in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.<\/strong> This is part of Starbucks' sustainability efforts, says Duncan Moir, President of Starbucks EMEA.<\/p>

Whether and when the system will be introduced in this form in Germany is not yet clear. However, the company is probably under pressure to act: From 2023, catering establishments in Germany will have to offer reusable as well as disposable containers.<\/strong><\/p>
