To mark World Recycling Day, the Federal Association of the German Waste, Water and Raw Materials Management Industry is drawing attention to a rarely discussed effect of recycling: the associated independence from raw material imports.<\/strong><\/p>

\u201eEspecially in the current serious political global situation, it is clear that the use of recycled raw materials is not only active climate protection, but also makes an important contribution to the security of supply of recycled raw materials<\/strong>,\u201c said BDE President Peter Kurth on Thursday in Berlin on the occasion of Global Recycling Day on 18 March.<\/p>

Kurth emphasised that in recent years, the focus has always been on the value of high-quality recycling for climate protection. This importance is undisputed. However, the current global political situation also emphasises another positive effect<\/strong>, that the extensive use of recycled raw materials in new products would sustainably reduce dependence on imports of primary raw materials - including from crisis regions.<\/p>

Kurth: \u201eRecycling is not just climate protection. High-quality recycling is also an indispensable contribution to reducing our dependence on primary raw materials. Global Recycling Day on 18 March is therefore a good opportunity, especially in this turbulent global political year, to promote understanding, not only in Germany and Europe, that waste is a source of raw materials.<\/strong> Recycling materials do not have to be transported to us over long distances. We can tap into this treasure trove of raw materials every day in our own country, with functioning collection and sorting structures and modern recycling technology.\u201c<\/p>

\u201eWaste is not the same as raw materials. That is why the right political framework and discussions in politics and society are essential for the optimal use of recycled raw materials. Recycled raw materials not only protect the climate, conserve natural resources and contribute to climate protection.<\/strong> They are also an almost inexhaustible source of recycled raw materials. This year's annual Global Recycling Day draws particular attention to this fact.\u201c<\/p>
